Art Access 300 Plates
Art Access builds an inclusive and diverse arts community in Utah through creative opportunities for people with disabilities and other marginalized communities, and through public engagement in the arts. 300 Plates is an annual fundraiser and exhibition that benefits the programs of Art Access. This popular art sale involves 200 Utah artists creating over 380 10"x11" panels.
Every year they supply 10” x 11” masonite panels for preselected artists who can transform that boring, brown masonite into works of art. The panels are then auctioned off to ticket holders and then to the public. In the past, the majority of the proceeds have gone to Art Access to fund their work but the last two years they’ve split the proceeds 50/50 with the artists, recognizing that with the current climate, artists are having a hard time finding venues to showcase their art as well as helping with financial difficulties all around. It’s nice when both sides benefit and have fun in the process!
I did two plates this year in encaustic and found metal and both pieces sold! I hope next year we can go back to a live event and feel the energy from the crowd. I miss talking to people face to face about my art and what goes into making each piece. It makes it more personal and I think the buyer goes away with a sense of history and pride in their purchase.
